Three Easy Postures You Can Try

If you're excited to start now, give these three beginner postures a try!

 

Mountain Pose - Yoga
  • Mountain Pose:

    Stand with your feet together and your shoulders relaxed. Let your arms hang by your sides. Now inhale deeply and raise your hands over your head, placing your palms together as if praying. Make your posture as straight as possible. Stretch for the sky. Hold for one minute.
Downward Dog - Yoga
  • Downward Dog:

    To begin, assume a position on all fours -- as if you were crawling. Now slowly inch your hands forward and raise your hips upward, toward the ceiling until your buttocks are over your head. Your feet and palms should remain flat on the floor while your legs form a right angle to your torso and your outstretched arms. Ideally, your body will form a triangle to the floor. Hold for three full deep breaths.
Warrior Pose - Yoga
  • Warrior Pose:

    To assume the Warrior pose, stand with your feet roughly four feet apart with your forward foot straight and your rear foot rotated out ninety degrees. Place your hands on your hips and allow your shoulders to relax. Now extend your arms forward and backward, matching your legs, keeping your hands flat and your palms down. To finish the posture, bend your forward knee to lower your body and allow your rear leg to stretch. Keep your gaze focused along the line of your forward arm. Hold for one minute then switch sides and repeat.

 

These postures are just the beginning. Yoga offers a vast library of postures that work the body in various ways. Once you have these three down and feel confident in your practice of them expand your yoga workout to include more.
